Himanta Biswa Sarma big announce: Assamese To Be Made Compulsory Subject Till Class 10 In All Schools

Assamese will be made a compulsory subject in all schools in Assam till Class 10, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced in a press meet today on December 21st.

He said that in the coming State Legislative Assembly the cabinet will introduce a bill in which any medium- English, Bengali, Hindi schools will have to teach Assamese language as a mandatory subject till Class 10.

Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that Assamese will be made a compulsory subject in all schools of Assam and only those who have studied the language till Class X will be eligible for the state government jobs.

“If one does not know the language of the state how will he know the notings in the files,” the minister said.


However, he also clarified that the language compulsion rule would be applicable to all areas in the state, except the three Barak Valley districts and the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD).

In Barak Valley region and BTAD, similar language compulsion rule will be introduced for Bengali and Bodo languages respectively, Sarma informed the mediapersons on Saturday.

A bill will be tabled in the Assembly in this regard during the Budget session, Sarma informed.
