Redmi smart speaker launching with Redmi K30 on December 10:
It's official that the Redmi K30 is launching soon in China but Xiaomi has big plans for the December 10 launch event. The Redmi K30 will be the star of the show along with the 5G version that could make 5G technology more accessible. However, Xiaomi is reportedly looking to expand its portfolio with the Redmi sub-brand and on December 10, we could see a Redmi branded smart speaker soon. Yes, a Redmi smart speaker is going to launch in China.
For Redmi, Xiaomi adopted a '1+4+X' strategy wherein phone will still be the first priority and the other four categories will deal with smart TVs, laptops, routers and smart speakers. Redmi has already launched a smart TV and laptop earlier this year. Hence, it's now time for the company to announce Redmi routers and smart speakers. And it has been confirmed by Lu Weibing, VP for Xiaomi and General Manager for Redmi.
No information about the smart speaker has been revealed so far but it is confirmed that Redmi will launch it along with the Redmi K30 on December 10. Looking at some of the past Xiaomi products, we can speculate what the Redmi smart speaker could have in store for us.
Given that Xiaomi usually takes design inspiration from Apple products, there are chances that the Redmi speaker could look similar to the Apple HomePod speaker. Hence, you can expect a powerful speaker with a mini display on top. And Xiaomi could rely on its Xiao AI voice assistant for the Chinese market while global markets could make do with Amazon's Alexa or Google Assistant.
Most importantly, it's the pricing where it all matters and Xiaomi could go ahead with aggressive pricing to challenge the likes of Google Home and Amazon Echo speakers. However, it could certainly be more expensive than the entry-level speakers such as Google Home Mini and Amazon Echo Dot.
Redmi is also expected to launch its own router at the event. Xiaomi already sells a couple of routers and the Redmi versions could be cheaper with different designs. For the unknown, Xiaomi already sold smart Wi-Fi routers under the Mi Router series in India and global markets.
